farmer’s market flower stand overflow, garden gifts — jewels. art leads to art in a twilit home.

Zinnia, dahlia and lisianthus blossoms are from the farmer’s market flower stand where I work. Other snips are from the garden: black-eyed Susans, cosmos, coneflower, marigold and a pretty purple fuzzy thing my neighbor forgot she planted (we couldn’t figure out what it was). I was kind of beauty-drunk as I arranged and rearranged the colors on my porch…which led to going inside and making a mixed media piece in honor of a handful of favorites. I realized these favorites (zinnia, black-eyed Susan, cosmos, coneflower, dahlia) were all in the daisy family, Asteraceae, which is so abundant in late summer here in Iowa.
